Where Is My Eso Addon Folder

Where Is My Eso Addon Folder

By sav on April 3rd, 2014 in Elder Scrolls Online Discussion I have looked in the zenimax online folder, which contains the launch folder and the elder scrolls online folder. In all of the sub folders there is no Addon folder. These are inside the elder scrolls online folder. AddOn Settings: All saved variable files located in Elder Scrolls Online documents folder. Installed AddOns: A list of installed AddOns in your AddOn folder. Restoring Backups. Press the 'Backup' tab located next to the 'Options' tab. Click on the name of the Backup you'd like to restore from the list. Click the Restore button and the backup.

Add-ons are extremely helpful in-game. While some games have banned add-ons (or mods), others openly embrace the modder community. Elder Scrolls Online is one such game.

In ESO, installing and using addons is completely legal and allowed. Adding them to the game is very easy, as you will see below.

Be sure to check out our Elder Scrolls Online starter guide while you are here.

Step 1: Download Add-ons

There are lots of sites dedicated to add-ons. Some sites are dedicated by game and others cover a multitude of games. There are some programs out there that can control the add-ons for you (such as the Curse client). You can download it from ESOUI.

Step 2: Extract or Unzip Add-ons

Add-ons come delivered in a zipped file. In order to use them, you will need to unzip them. Windows has a built-in extraction program as long as the file is a .zip. If the folder is saved as a .rar file, you will need to download another program on Windows 7 and earlier. Windows 8 can unzip .rar files.

Files need to be placed in the ESO Add-ons directory that can be found in Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/AddOns on your computer. The easiest way to do this is to right-click the file and click extract files.

A new window will pop up that will ask for specifics. Be sure to put the path to the directory in the extract to or location box. Click the dots or browse button to the right to easily find the directory.

Step 3: Activate Add-Ons

The files are easy to activate once you launch the game. In the character screen, there is a menu to the left side. One of the options is Add-Ons. Click on it and you can decide which add-ons to allow.

ESO also allows you to customize which add-ons you use based on character. This option is only available from the character screen. The in-game menu only allows you to turn add-ons off and on based on character logged in.

Step 4: Change Settings (Optional)

The last thing you can do is in-game and that is to change your settings. Placement of add-ons may not be to your liking so they are movable as well as scalable. Some mods also allow you to choose which stuff to show. Using the menu that comes up when you hit the escape key, you can find all add-on settings here.

Some can be moved without loading up these menus. Others you will have to unlock using these menus. Here's a look at how settings look:

Sometimes you may need to temporarily turn off a mod. For example, in Cyrodiil, you can not use the fast transit system while the ZrMiniMap is running. Instead of logging that character out and back in just to disable it, ESO has made it easy by showing the add-ons in-game.

ESO mods are not very intrusive. Some can be very simple as you can see in this view of my screen:

If you don't feel comfortable extracting directly to the folder on your pc, another common way of doing this is to drag and drop the files into the folder after extracting them. Be sure to check out all our Guides and Tips.

There are a few different ways you can install new addons in the Elder Scrolls Online.

My absolute recommendation is by using Minion. It is by far the most convenient solution overall. You can also install them manually should you prefer to.

In this article I will show you both how to install ESO addons using Minion and how to install them manually.

Be careful not to install TOO many addons though as it will make your game run much slower.

Check out our 10 essential ESO addons list to get you started after you’ve familiarized yourself with how to install addons.

Install addons using Minion

Minion is a third party software which allows you to easily install and manage your ESO addons within one unified interface.

Not only will minion let you easily install addons with the click of a button, it will also make it super easy to keep track of and update your already installed addons.

Eso

If you would like to go for Minion, follow these simple steps to get started:

First, download and install Minion from this link.

Once the installer has finished, launch Minion.

Eso

Minion will request to scan your computer for installed games. Make sure Elder Scrolls Online is checked and hit Continue.

When this is done, you can click Find More in the upper menu to search for addons you would like to install.

Once you find your desired addon, simply click install and let minion do the rest of the work.

Under the Installed tab minion will list all your addons, it will also let you know which ones are out of date and need updating.

To update your addons, simply click Update All in the upper left corner of Minion.

I love having all my addons in one place where I can easily check for updates and install more addons, I am certain you will feel the same!

Next we will look into how you can install your addons manually.

Install addons manually

To install addons manually in you first need to download the addons you want.

By far the biggest database for ESO addons is esoui.com.

Once you have downloaded your addons, place them in the ESO addon folder.

The default location for the addon folder is:

C:Users[*YOUR USERNAME*]DocumentsElder Scrolls OnlineliveAddOns

Replace [*YOUR USERNAME*] with your own username.

Also, don’t forget to unzip the addon.

Now all you need to do is either restart your game or type /reloadui in your chat window to load up your new addon.

Out of date addons

If your addon is not loading, it may be out of date. ESO will by default NOT load addons that are out of date.

In order to load out of date addons you need to navigate to ADD-ONS from the main menu (hotkey: ESC on PC).

In the upper right hand corner of the ADD-ONS menu you will find a check box labeled “Load out of date add-ons”. Make sure to check this and hit reload UI.

Loading out of date add-ons can sometimes cause crashes if the version of the add-on is no longer compatible with the latest version of ESO.

However most of the time it is totally safe to use out of date add-ons and you don’t need to worry too much about it. Make sure to check your minion after an update has been released from ESO and you will find that most of your addons have already been updated for the latest version of game.
